The Commonly Used Refrigerants On Refrigeration Systems

1. HFC series refrigerant:

R134a, R410A, R407C, R417A, R404A, R507, R23, R508A, R508B, R152a

 

(1)R134a (tetrafluoroethane)

Refrigerant R134a is currently one of the main refrigerating fluids that is internationally recognized as an alternative to R12. It is commonly used in automotive air-conditioning, commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, and as a foaming agent in the production of hard plastic insulation materials. It can also be used to configure other mixtures. Refrigerants, such as R404A and R407C, etc.

Main application: It is mainly used as a refrigerant instead of R12, and is widely used in automobile air-conditioning, refrigerator refrigeration, and central air conditioner with screw compressor.

 

(2)R410A

Physical and chemical properties: Under normal temperature and pressure, R410A is a non-chlorinated fluoroalkane non-azeotropic mixture refrigerant, a colorless gas, and it is a compressed liquefied gas stored in a steel cylinder. Its ODP is, so R410A is an environmentally friendly refrigerant that does not destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Main application: R410A is mainly used to replace R22 and R502. It has the characteristics of cleanliness, low toxicity, non-combustibility, and good cooling effect. It is widely used in household air conditioners, small commercial air conditioners, household central air conditioners, etc.

 

(3)R407C

Under normal temperature and pressure, R407C is a non-azeotropic mixture of fluoroalkane without chlorine. It is a colorless gas. It is a compressed liquefied gas stored in a steel cylinder. R407C is an environmentally friendly refrigerant that does not destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Main use: R407C is mainly used to replace R22, has the characteristics of cleanliness, low toxicity, non-combustibility, and good cooling effect. It is widely used in household air conditioners and small and medium-sized central air conditioners.

 

(4)R417A

Under normal temperature and pressure, R417A is a non-azeotropic mixture of fluoroalkane without chlorine. It is a colorless gas. It is a compressed liquefied gas stored in a steel cylinder. R417A is an environmentally friendly refrigerant that does not destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Main use: R417A is mainly used to replace R22, with clean, low toxicity, non-combustible, and good cooling effect. It is used for heat pumps (replace R22 for OEM initial installation) and air conditioners (replace R22 for after-sales), etc.

 

(5)R404A

R404A must not be a non-azeotropic mixed refrigerant without chlorine. It is a colorless gas at room temperature and pressure, and is a compressed liquefied gas stored in a cylinder. Its ODP shows R404A is an environmentally friendly refrigerant that does not destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Main application: R404A is mainly used to replace R22 and R502. It has the characteristics of cleanliness, low toxicity, non-combustibility, and good cooling effect. It is widely used in medium and low temperature refrigeration systems.

 

(6)R507

R507 is a non-chlorine azeotropic mixed refrigerant. It is a colorless gas at room temperature and pressure. It is a compressed liquefied gas stored in a cylinder. R507 is an environmentally friendly refrigerant that does not destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

Main use: R507 is mainly used to replace R22 and R502, with the characteristics of clean, low toxicity, non-combustible, good refrigeration effect, etc., and is widely used in medium and low temperature refrigeration systems.

 

(7)R23 (trifluoromethane)

R23 (trifluoromethane, FREON 23), boiling point at normal pressure is -82.1℃, freezing point is -155.2℃, liquid density (25℃) is 0.67 kg/L, critical density is 0.525kg/L, critical pressure is 4.83 MPa, consumption The ozone potential (ODP) is 0, which is an environmentally friendly refrigerant.

Main application: Trifluoromethane, also known as HFC-23, is a high-pressure liquefied vapor that can be used as a refrigerant to replace CFC-13. At the same time, it is an ideal substitute for Halon 1301, which has the characteristics of cleanliness, low toxicity, and good fire extinguishing agent effect.

 

2.HCFC series refrigerant

R22, R123, R124, R141b, R142b, R402A, R402B, R408A, R409A

 

(1)R22 (Difluorochloromethane)

R22 (Freon22, Chlorodifuoromethane), molecular formula CHClF2, molecular weight 86.47. R-22 is a colorless, almost odorless gas at room temperature, non-combustible, non-corrosive, and minimally toxic. It can be liquefied into a colorless and transparent liquid under pressure. It is an HCFC-type refrigerant. R-22 has high chemical and thermal stability, especially in the absence of water, it does not react with general metals below 200°C. In the presence of water, it only works slowly with alkali. However, cracking occurs at high temperatures.

Main application: Freon-22, molecular formula: CHClF2, molecular weight: 86.47. R-22 is widely used in household air conditioners, central air conditioners and other commercial refrigeration equipment; it can also be used as a raw material for polytetrafluoroethylene resin and an intermediate for fire extinguishing agent 1121.

 

(2)R123 (dichlorotrifluoroethane)

Trifluorodichloroethane (2,2-dichloride-1,1,1-trifluoroethane), molecular formula CF3CHCl2, molecular weight 152.93, boiling point 27.85 ℃, CAS registration number: 306-83-2, ozone layer depletion ( ODP) 0.02, global warming potential (GWP) 93, is an HCFC-type refrigerant that replaces R-11 (F11).

Main use: R123 can replace F-11 and F-113 as cleaning agent, foaming agent and refrigerant (central air conditioning/centrifugal chiller). 250kg/drum, steel drum (with PVF coating inside) packaging.

 

(3)R124 (monochlorotetrafluoroethane)

Chlorotetrafluoroethane CHClFCF3, HCFC-124 (R124), molecular weight 136.5, boiling point -10.95℃, critical temperature 122.25℃, critical pressure 3.613MPa, ozone depleting potential (ODP) 0.02, global warming coefficient value (GWP ) Is 0.10.

 

Main application: HCFC-124 (R124) is mainly used as a refrigerant and fire extinguishing agent. It is an important component of mixed working fluid and can replace CFC-114.

 

3.CFC series refrigerant

R11, R12, R13, R502, R503

(1)R11 (monofluorotrichloromethane)

alias Freon-11 (FREON 11), molecular formula: CCl3F, molecular weight: 137.37. Colorless liquid or gas; melting point -111°C, boiling point 23.7°C, heavy 1.487×103kg/m3, ethereal, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether, good chemical stability.

Main use: Used for large-scale central air-conditioning refrigerant (centrifugal chiller), polyurethane (PU) foam plastic foaming agent.

 

(2)R12 (difluorodichloromethane)

R12 is a colorless, odorless, and non-corrosive gas at room temperature. It can be liquefied into a colorless and transparent liquid under pressure. R12 is non-toxic, non-flammable, and has good thermal and chemical stability.

Main use: R12 can be used as a refrigerant, fire extinguishing agent, pesticide and spray, etc. R12 as a refrigerant is widely used in refrigerators, freezers, central air-conditioning chillers and other refrigeration and air-conditioning fields.

 

4.PFC series refrigerant

PFC-14, PFC-116, PFC-218

 

5.HC series refrigerant

R170, R290, R600a, R1270

 

(1)R170 (ethane)

Ethane C2H6 (R170), molecular weight 30.07, boiling point -88.6°C, critical temperature 32.3°C, critical pressure 5.88 MPa, ozone depleting potential (ODP), global warming coefficient (GWP) 0.01.

Main use: R170 is mainly used to replace R13 and R503, and is compatible with the original system and lubricants.

 

(2)R290 (propane)

Propane CH3CH2CH3 (R290), molecular weight 44.9, boiling point -42.2°C, critical temperature 96.67°C, critical pressure 4.24MPa, vapor pressure (25°C) 0.475MPa, ozone depleting potential (ODP), global warming coefficient (GWP) Is 0.01.

Main purpose: high purity R290 is used as a temperature sensing working fluid; superior and first R290 can be used as a refrigerant to replace R22 and R502, and are compatible with the original system and lubricating oil.
